Veronica’s passion for environmental science started at a very young age being born and raised on Fort Myers Beach. She obtained her Masters and Bachelors degrees in Biology and Animal Behavior from Florida Atlantic University. Most of her research has centered around marine animal acoustics and communication. She has had the opportunity to study Atlantic spotted and bottlenose dolphin’s signature whistles, as well as manatee and right whale vocalizations. Veronica is an avid and enthusiastic birder and spent the last three years working in various rookery, shorebird, and sea turtle monitoring organizations all around Florida. She has a background in marine mammal rescue and has volunteered with Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve to conduct colonial nesting surveys, as well as seagrass and oyster monitoring. Veronica is very fun and quirky, and is enthusiastically nerdy about ecology. She loves to share her passion for the world as a naturalist guide on our dolphin boat tours, and Everglades tours. She and her husband love to explore diverse ecosystems and travel around the world actively enjoying hiking, kayaking, and scuba diving. She is a huge fan of the arts, and enjoys capturing beautiful moments through photography and watercolor. In her spare time, she and her husband are currently writing a children’s book series about South Florida wildlife. When she’s not guiding nature tours, you will find her whipping up a delicious gluten-free treats with her kids, running barefoot on the beach, or curled up with a book under a shaded tree. Veronica is a wealth of knowledge, and she is an incredible addition to our Everglades Tours.
I was born in Alabama at a very young age and grew up in a rural farm area that gave me the opportunity to observe, appreciate and learn about nature. My passion for nature was not only fueled by the world that I grew up in but also by watching old Tarzan movies as a child where Johnny Weismuller ruled on the big screen.
After moving to Ft. Myers as a 12 year old inquisitive child my nature world expanded greatly! Alligators, turtles, manatee, birds and plants and the Everglades totally intrigued me. I have spent an amazing 11 years on active duty in the Air Force and an additional 2 years in the Army National Guard. From there I served in the United States Secret Service for another 14 years before returning to my home here in southwest Florida.
I am the father of 3 absolutely wonderful children and grandfather to 9 equally wonderful grandchildren.
I have since broadened my education and obtained my Florida master naturalist certification and have been guiding for 8 years. I am excited to be with this great organization and love the Everglades and love sharing this marvelous place with our guests! I look forward to serving you and building more great memories and adventures with you!
Donald completed his career with the Federal Civil Service in Washington DC and relocated to Southwest Florida several years ago. He’s served as a U.S. Coast Guard commissioned officer, a U.S. Army infantry paratrooper, and a National Park Service ranger. As an interpretive ranger, Donald introduced visitors to the historical aspects of the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor at the USS Arizona Memorial in Hawaii, and the natural aspects of the Everglades at Shark Valley in Everglades National Park. Donald earned a bachelor of arts degree in Russian Area Studies from the University of Maryland and has served as an interpreter/cultural advisor on Coast Guard missions to the Russian Far East, Japan, Alaska, and even Tampa. While he shies away from swimming with them, he is a crocodilian aficionado and is presently pursuing completion of his Florida Master Naturalist credentials. Donald also enjoys bicycling, hiking, paddling, boating, and diving, as well as introducing the curious to the subtle natural wonders of Southwest Florida and the Everglades. His passion for the Everglades combined with his interesting background and subtle humor make for a fun and interesting experience.
