January 12th, 2010Lots of great birding in the Everglades with ibis, woodstorks, night herons, anhingas, egrets, and herons. Here are a couple photos of a juvenile black crowned night heron and a juvenile white ibis.
Wildlife in the Everglades
December 10th, 2009The wildlife has been abundant in the Everglades. We have been spotting lots of alligators and birds. Flocks of herons, ibis, and egrets roosting in the cypress. We have also been spotting night herons, anhingas, white pelicans, and woodstorks. On a recent wildlife drive there was a panther on the path! What a rare thrill that was as these cats can be elusive.

We spotted this venemous cottonmouth while on a recent nature walk on the full day tour. We definitely kept our distance and stayed on the elevated boardwalk!

Temperatures are beginning to cool down a little in the Everglades and the wildlife has been abundant! While out in the Big Cypress we spotted this large alligator sunning himself. He must’ve known we were watching.

One of our many fun adventurous families- the Gremillions! What a pleasure they were to have out us for the day. The kids were very brave and held not only alligators, but also 50 lb. albino pythons!
Summer Day in the Everglades!

Had a beautiful day in the Everglades. On the nature walk, we encountered a female alligator watching closely over her nest, and boy was she ornery! Her clutch should be hatching soon. Everyone enjoyed the alligator exhibit where they had the chance to hold an alligator.
I think the alligator was even smiling for pictures! Also had a great time on the airboat ride through the river of grass. On the ride we were up-close and personal with at least three alligators, saw a red-shouldered hawk, and a bit further on we got to see the remnants of an Indian hunting shack which is now home to a few baby gators. Another exciting Everglades Adventure.

Hello there, my fellow Adventurer! Welcome to my blog, my little piece of the interwebs where I bring you all the news from the place I call home, The Florida Everglades!
Paulie the Python figured out how to get an internet signal out there deep in the marshlands, so I'm now able to post to my blog regularly!
A little about me? Sure! I am about 10 ft long, I love to chill out in the sun all day, and unlike you humans, I don't need sunscreen. Lucky eh?
I do my part to help preserve the Everglades by sometimes digging what we call "Gator Holes", and in times of drought, other species and reptiles can come to my gator holes filled with water to survive until the water levels are back to normal. I also eat quite a lot of garfish, which helps to keep their population in control. Garfish are known for eating a lot of bass and beam fish, so I do what I can to allow bass and beam to flourish.
